For the most part, we’re not “reaching out” to aliens with the notable exception of Voyager I and Voyager II.
Other than that, we’re listening to the cosmos, and we’re broadcasting TV and radio signals to ourselves which leak out into space, but there’s no one sending specific message out there to contact some aliens.
Now, if we did reach out more, is it a good idea?
Well, by the time anyone hears our signals we may be long gone. The Milky Way is 100,000 light years across, so any radio signals that might extend that far would take 100,000 years to reach the other side of the galaxy. Space is big!
