Assume CO2 hits catastrophic levels, and most of life goes extinct. How long will it take the earth to reset itself and allow life to start again?

Great and interesting question!

Unfortunately, there’s nothing that says Earth has to “reset” itself. It may eventually wind up like Venus, with temperatures of 250 degrees, raining acid rain, and all signs that civilization ever existed gone forever.

This is one of the dangers of ignoring human-made climate change, pollution, raking of the planet’s resources, etcetera.
