It’s amazing life began quickly on Earth since the last major catastrophe. It’s encouraging!

We just haven’t found life anywhere else yet. That’s all.

Unfortunately, things are a long way off. The nearest candidate, after the failure to find evidence of life on Mars, are the moons of Jupiter and Saturn and then we’re looking at a solar system 40 light years away. 40 light years is a long way away.

Quoting TRAPPIST-1 Is Only 40 Light Years Away! Wait. What?:

A light year is a measurement of distance based on the speed of light. Light travels at 186,282 miles per second. By my calculations, that’s 670,615,200 miles per hour, 16,094,764,800 miles per day, and 5,874,589,152,000 miles per year. Thus, the TRAPPIST-1 star system is roughly 235 trillion miles away.
